Ossoff Faces Criticism Over Foster Care Ad

5 hours ago 0

Senator Jon Ossoff from Georgia is under scrutiny after releasing a campaign ad highlighting his involvement with the state’s foster care system. Candice Broce, the head of Georgia’s Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS), accuses Ossoff of using vulnerable children for campaign advantage.

The ad, titled “Our Kids,” emphasizes a bipartisan investigation and new legislation aimed at addressing issues in the state’s foster care system. Ossoff claims this demonstrates his commitment to protecting children and ensuring accountability. However, Broce argues that he is exaggerating his influence and using a serious issue for political gain.

“For five years, I’ve been in the trenches fighting for vulnerable children and foster care reform alongside thousands of DFCS workers. Trust us when we say Jon Ossoff is nowhere to be found,”

Broce criticized the ad and claimed that Ossoff failed to secure more funding or federal support for the foster care system. She highlighted her persistent efforts for reform, compared to what she describes as Ossoff’s inaction.

In response, Ossoff’s team accused Broce of incompetence and highlighted Ossoff’s findings from his investigation, which included issues like sex trafficking within the foster care system. They argue that the broader dysfunction within DFCS has been revealed through various testimonies and reports.

Broce has also faced allegations of suggesting inappropriate placements for children with special needs, which she has denied. She maintains that while the foster care system has challenges, Ossoff’s contribution has mainly focused on raising issues without providing solutions.

“Candice Broce is a partisan political hack irresponsibly placed in charge of care for the state’s most vulnerable kids,”

Dismissing attacks on her qualifications, Broce cited her extensive experience in government roles. She argues that Ossoff has missed opportunities to leverage his federal position to aid vulnerable children effectively.

The debate includes comparisons with Georgia’s other U.S. Senator, Raphael Warnock, whose community-focused initiatives have been highlighted as more directly supportive of family welfare.

Ossoff, seeking re-election, faces Republican nominee Rep. Mike Collins in the upcoming November election.
