In a highlight of June’s NBA draft class, second pick Darryn Peterson led the Utah Jazz against third pick Cameron Boozer and the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night.
Peterson impressed in his second NBA Summer League appearance, scoring 25 points by hitting 8 out of 15 shots, including three 3-pointers and three free throws. The former Kansas Jayhawks standout also contributed 12 assists, two rebounds, and two steals, guiding the Jazz to a 109-100 victory.
After the game, Peterson expressed his motivation to compete against the fellow top pick. “I always look for something in everyone I play against,” Peterson stated. “Boozer was picked right after me, so I’m sure he had his own goals today, but I had to hold my ground.”

Despite the loss, Boozer delivered a strong performance with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and a steal. He showcased his shooting skills by making four 3-pointers and achieving a shooting percentage of 66.7%.
Cedric Coward, a standout rookie from last season, led the Grizzlies with 23 points, further highlighting the talent on the team.
The Jazz and Peterson will continue their Summer League journey on Tuesday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 2026 Salt Lake City Summer League. Boozer and the Grizzlies are set to face the Atlanta Hawks in their next matchup.
In the lead-up to June’s NBA Draft, much discussion surrounded the top three picks and who would be chosen first. This prestigious spot was awarded to BYU’s AJ Dybantsa, not Peterson or Boozer.
Dybantsa expressed confidence in earning the top pick, claiming he did not need to participate in team workouts. His debut with the Washington Wizards is highly anticipated and will take place Thursday night against Peterson and the Jazz, potentially setting the stage for a rivalry between two emerging stars.
