A tragic accident in Ohio claimed the life of Tobias “Toby” Forsythe, a talented college soccer goalkeeper. Bekhzod Asrarov, a commercial truck driver originally from Uzbekistan, was involved in the incident. The crash occurred on Interstate 71 in Madison County when Asrarov’s truck collided with another vehicle.
Forsythe, who played as a goalkeeper for the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, was killed in the accident. He had been actively pursuing his education as an economics major and was known for his commitment to the game. Forsythe joined the UMass Lowell River Hawks in 2026, having previously played at Ashland University and Shawnee State.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers arrived at the scene following the crash. According to sources, Asrarov attempted to destroy evidence by ripping off his truck’s dash camera and crushing it. He also tried to destroy his mobile phones and logging device. Unable to communicate in English, he used Google Translate to speak with the troopers.
Asrarov, who holds a commercial driver’s license from Ohio, entered the United States under the diversity visa lottery program in 2024. This incident raises concerns about the qualifications and language proficiency of truck drivers operating on U.S. roads.
“We cannot let truckers like Asrarov, who can’t read our road signs or speak to law enforcement, drive 80,000-pound rigs on America’s highways,” stated Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
The University of Massachusetts at Lowell expressed deep sorrow over Forsythe’s death. Athletic Director Lynn Coutts and Head Coach Kyle Zenoni praised Forsythe’s dedication, stating that he left a lasting impact on the team and will always be remembered fondly.
The incident has reignited discussions about the safety and licensing of immigrant truck drivers in the United States, particularly those with language barriers. The Trump administration had previously intensified efforts to revoke licenses of such drivers, citing them as road risks.
