A California man’s involvement with alleged drug activities came to light in an unusual way. He left a backpack containing a large stash of suspected methamphetamine in a rideshare vehicle, according to officials.
The San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) reported that authorities recovered nearly three-quarters of a pound of suspected meth. This recovery took place after a rideshare driver alerted officers on a Sunday afternoon.
According to treatment directory Recovered, the drugs have an estimated street value exceeding $30,000. Typical prices reach up to $100 per gram.
The SFPD detailed the incident in a news release, explaining that the suspect’s rideshare trip led to the unexpected discovery of more than 300 grams of methamphetamine.
The incident occurred near the Tenderloin neighborhood, known for its challenges with drug activity, homelessness, and crime.
The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Jessie Ottman-Comb from Sacramento, left behind the backpack. Working with the rideshare driver, police quickly located him at a motel.
During a search of Ottman-Comb’s motel room, officers found two cellphones, two tablets, and drug paraphernalia. All items, including the meth found in the vehicle, were taken as evidence.
Authorities noted that the total amount of recovered meth was 355.7 grams. Ottman-Comb was booked at the San Francisco County Jail. Charges include possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and transportation or sale of methamphetamine.
The investigation remains ongoing, officials added.
