Arizona Cardinals’ Travis Vokolek Retires Due to Neck Injury

The Arizona Cardinals’ team roster experienced a significant change on Wednesday. Tight end Travis Vokolek announced his retirement at 28. This decision follows a neck injury he sustained in a game against the Indianapolis Colts.

During a kickoff in the game, Vokolek was blocking when he landed awkwardly after a tackle. This incident required him to be stretchered off the field.

“After numerous visits with doctors and neurologists over the past couple of months, I have been advised to medically retire from the NFL due to a serious neck injury that I suffered this past season,” Vokolek stated in a social media post.

He expressed gratitude for realizing his childhood dream of playing football professionally for three years. “Football has taught me many life lessons and given me unforgettable memories,” Vokolek noted.

Vokolek thanked his teammates, coaches, and the Arizona Cardinals training staff for their support during his recovery. He also expressed appreciation towards his wife for standing by his side throughout the ordeal. “I left everything out on the field. Thank you for all of the love and support. Vokolek’s football journey included playing college football at Rutgers and Nebraska. He entered the professional arena as an undrafted free agent with the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. However, he did not play in any games with them.

In December 2023, he joined the Arizona Cardinals. Although appearing in eight games, he never became a primary part of their offensive play.
