Dan Le Batard Criticizes ESPN Layoffs and OutKick Reporting

Dan Le Batard, a former ESPN personality, recently commented on the ESPN layoffs, including the dismissal of Ryan Clark. Le Batard’s remarks have been labeled as politically charged by some observers.

OutKick, a media outlet, initially reported that ESPN was planning to release Ryan Clark, a polarizing figure on the network. Reporters Bobby Burack and Dan Zaksheske contacted ESPN, stating their intention to break the news. ESPN allegedly used this time to initiate their own coverage of the story via The Athletic before OutKick could publish.

Jemele Hill and Le Batard criticized OutKick’s reports, suggesting they slandered the media outlet while emphasizing race in their analysis. Le Batard argued that ESPN has been accused of being excessively progressive and claimed that diverse voices were being removed from the network.

“Disney and ESPN somehow keep getting called too woke,” Le Batard said. “All the journalists are out the door now. All of the Black people, or almost all of the Black people who were actually going to say things that Black people agree with strongly, all of them are gone too. … You’re gonna have a network run by McAfee and all of the White people now in charge there.”

According to Le Batard, Ryan Clark’s termination was mishandled, and he accused ESPN of embarrassing Clark by leaking the story to what he referred to as a disreputable media outlet. He questioned the integrity of OutKick without providing direct evidence.

Le Batard did express that Ryan Clark’s departure was planned and criticized the motives behind leaking such information. He portrayed OutKick as dishonest, stating the organization wore a “costume of media” without engaging with OutKick’s request for proof.

OutKick’s response emphasized their commitment to rigorous reporting and analysis. The outlet argued against being labeled a “grift,” a term used by Le Batard as misleading. They maintained that their work remains rooted in genuine beliefs about sports and culture.
