The Miami Hurricanes are capitalizing on their recent national championship game appearance by securing key recruits for the future. The team has successfully added transfer quarterback Darian Mensah and wide receiver Cooper Barkate from Duke, a notable ACC rival. Additionally, Miami’s 2027 recruiting class is shaping up to be formidable.
On Friday, five-star cornerback A’mir Sears announced his commitment to the Hurricanes. Sears is ranked as the No. 2 player in Florida and No. 11 overall in the country, based on 247Sports composite rankings. Miami was the first to offer Sears a scholarship, and their recruiting approach impressed him.
They have coaches that actually recruit,” Sears expressed to Rivals. “A lot of these schools are not recruiting honestly. They just send letters and generic texts. Miami has a real recruiting department.
With Sears’ commitment, Miami now boasts five five-star commits, positioning them just behind Texas A&M in the 2027 recruiting cycle. Along with the Aggies and Notre Dame Fighting Irish, they are among the select few teams with four or more five-star pledges.
Adding Sears has elevated Miami’s class to the No. 2 spot nationally, surpassing Notre Dame and trailing Texas A&M. He joins fellow five-star recruits cornerback Donte Wright, quarterback Israel Abrams, wide receiver Nick Lennear, and edge-rusher Jaiden Bryant in the Hurricanes’ impressive lineup.
Sears visited Coral Gables officially in March and shared his positive experience with Rivals.
Man, it was a vibe,” Sears recounted. “Played 3-on-3 basketball and ran the court for about nine straight games with Nick Lennear. I think playing for The U just excites me to put on for the crib.
Sears appreciates Miami’s physical and gritty playing style, saying it aligns with his football preferences. He also praised the continuous support from the coaching and recruiting staff.
