Authorities detained Jeanine John Taele on Sunday after FBI surveillance noted suspicious activity at the Trump National Golf Club, Rancho Palos Verdes, California. This occurred days before a planned Republican National Committee fundraising event featuring President Donald Trump.
According to investigators, Taele, 38, from Downey, California, was detected photographing and recording security-related operations around the venue. Arrested on weapons charges, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department uncovered illegal firearms and ammunition in Taele’s vehicle during their investigation.
“There’s a lot of what ifs at this point,” said Captain Calvin Mah of the LASD Major Crimes Bureau, emphasizing the need for further investigation into backgrounds and accessible areas to identify more potential weapons. Authorities are also examining a notebook linked to Taele and reviewing his social media profiles.
Speculations arose online questioning Taele’s gender based on the name Jeanine. However, Captain Mah confirmed Taele is a biological male. Taele is also implicated in an El Segundo, California, robbery investigation. An alert in a California database flagged Taele’s booking, which notified the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department of his connection to the robbery case.
Further investigations led to a search warrant executed at Taele’s residence, where numerous firearms, ammunition, body armor, and notebooks with concerning notes were discovered, as reported by CNN. Bill Essayli, First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, announced the continuing investigation. His office, along with the FBI and ATF, is assessing the evidence and pledges additional updates when possible.
Security measures around Trump remain tense due to prior threats and targeted attacks. However, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department stated no current credible threats to the local community.
The situation remains under development, with updates to follow as new information emerges.
