The Ridge fire erupted near Gorman, expanding rapidly to 1,000 acres on Friday afternoon. This led to the closure of both sides of the 5 Freeway and significant traffic congestion through the Grapevine.
Reported around 3 p.m. near the 39000 block of Gorman Post Road, the fire swiftly engulfed around 100 acres of brush in northwestern Los Angeles County. Within three hours, the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reported the fire’s expansion to 1,000 acres.
By 4:45 p.m., the blaze had leaped across the 5 Freeway, triggering evacuation orders for Gorman and Hungry Valley areas west of the freeway. Evacuation warnings were issued for regions south, north, and in adjacent Kern County. Affected areas are detailed in a map available online.
According to the National Weather Service, the fire site experiences south-to-southeast winds of 6 to 10 mph, with gusts reaching up to 15 mph. The temperature sits in the lower 90s, and humidity is near 18%.
