Passengers on a Delta flight bound for Orlando had to evacuate using slides following an emergency landing at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This event occurred shortly after the flight’s departure on a Saturday morning.
The aircraft, with about 200 passengers and six crew members on board, encountered smoke in the flight deck. The crew quickly declared an emergency. Flight 2204, which left Atlanta just before 7:30 a.m., turned back and landed safely.
According to a Delta spokesperson, evacuation slides were deployed, and people exited the plane on the taxiway. They were then transported to the terminal by bus. The spokesperson stated, “The flight crew followed procedures to return to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after reports of fumes in the flight deck. A slide evacuation occurred on a taxiway, and customers are being reaccommodated on a new aircraft. Safety is paramount at Delta, and we apologize to our customers for their experience.”
Passengers are being rebooked on flights to Orlando. Meanwhile, the affected aircraft is undergoing maintenance checks, Delta confirmed.
