In a recent episode, Fairchild recounted a frightening incident on a New York City street before she became famous.

An Unsettling Encounter

In 1970, a young Fairchild visited her sister in New York. While walking in the afternoon, she was approached by two large men. As per Fairchild’s account, they ignored her resistance and forced her into a cab. Despite the crowd at a nearby bus stop, no one intervened. Her kidnappers revealed their intentions; one was a pimp, and the other a drug pusher. They detailed their plans for her, but Fairchild responded with humor in an attempt to remain composed.

“I was a shy kid, but I was damned if I was going to let them see how scared I was,” Fairchild said.

Comedy as a Defense

Fairchild managed to engage her abductors with jokes, leading one to suggest releasing her, impressed by her humor. The kidnappers paid the driver to take Fairchild to her desired location, enabling her to return to her sister’s apartment. The encounter left a lasting impact on her, making her more vigilant about her surroundings.

Fairchild hopes to raise awareness among women through her story, emphasizing the ease with which one can become a victim. “You don’t think something like this could really ever happen to you,” she stated.
