Officials React to Fauci’s Texts on COVID-19 Vaccination Concerns

Several officials took to social media to express outrage following a Senate committee’s release of text messages on Monday. The messages revealed Dr. Anthony Fauci privately voiced concerns about potential links between fever and reactions to the second COVID-19 vaccine dose and miscarriage in the first trimester.

Acquired from Fauci’s government-issued cellphone, these January 2021 messages show the former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) director discussing this issue. Fauci indicated that these reactions “theoretically could be associated with miscarriage in the 1st trimester.”

Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., alongside Senator Ron Johnson, R-Wis., made the conversation public and criticized Fauci on social media. Rand Paul accused Fauci of contradicting himself by saying one thing publicly and something different privately. Paul claimed Fauci downplayed vaccine risks to pregnant women instead of acknowledging possible errors in vaccine information.

Paul said in a post on a social media platform: “Once again, Anthony Fauci was saying one thing in public and something completely different in private. He was willing to put women and their unborn children at risk instead of admitting that he was wrong about the vaccines that he tried guilting Americans into taking.”

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier joined the criticism, accusing Fauci of withholding information that could have endangered pregnant women and their unborn children. In his social media post, Uthmeier remarked: “Pregnant women were told it was safe! How many women lost babies due to Dr. Fauci’s lies.”

Further escalating reactions, former Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., demanded Fauci’s arrest, labeling the situation “the most infuriating thing.” Greene asserted, “Fauci knew Covid shots cause miscarriages. And still forced the shots. Fauci belongs in prison,” adding that if a Covid vaccine might cause a miscarriage, it could lead to other severe health implications.

James Uthmeier accused Fauci of withholding information regarding possible vaccine risks to pregnant women and questioned whether his guidance may have led to miscarriages. Uthmeier highlighted the gravity of the situation: “If a Covid vaccine can kill a baby and cause a miscarriage, then imagine all the other things it can do to you. And Fauci knew it and still told people to take it,” commented Greene in a separate post.

Senator Johnson’s press release on the text messages suggested that these findings “could have an immediate impact [on] public health and the principle of informed consent.” Fauci previously acknowledged lacking data or theoretical grounds to prefer vaccination early in pregnancy over later. He noted over 10,000 vaccinated pregnant women had reported no issues.

During this period, Dr. Vivek Murthy, involved in the conversation, later serving as President Joe Biden’s surgeon general, highlighted the World Health Organization’s caution against Moderna’s vaccine for pregnant women due to limited data. Murthy stated that a strong recommendation against vaccination based on a lack of data could “potentially be quite damaging to public confidence among pregnant women.”
