Matilda Lindell Shines in ‘ABBA The Concert’ Tribute

Swedish singer Matilda Lindell marks her 18th year performing on stage, showcasing her talents in spandex and sequins. As the lead vocalist in ‘ABBA The Concert,’ she channels Agnetha Fältskog, one of ABBA’s original stars. The tribute is set to take place at Hard Rock Casino Northern Indiana’s main stage, offering an exclusive performance at 7 p.m.

Speaking from New York following her transatlantic arrival, Lindell shared her excitement, stating, “Anytime we perform in the U.S., it’s thrilling. The audiences here engage with ABBA’s music more externally compared to Swedish crowds.”

‘ABBA The Concert: A Tribute to ABBA’ began in 1999, featuring an all-Swedish cast. Since joining at age 26, Lindell has impressed with her vocal range. She tours with musicians like Elisabet Karlsson or Mia Ternström and male vocalists Martin Håkansson and Matte Andersson.

The show promises 90 minutes of ABBA classics, including hits like “Mamma Mia,” “S.O.S,” and “Dancing Queen.” Lindell noted, “Our ‘Waterloo’ performance is a highlight, always drawing extra attention due to our iconic costumes.”

Costume designer Owe Sandström originally crafted the painted cat costumes for ABBA’s European tour in 1974, aiming for a distinctly Swedish yet modern look.

Lindell explained, “Our costumes match the originals, heavy with their authentic fabrics, fringe, and flared legs. Comfort takes a backseat to authenticity.”

Original ABBA members no longer perform. Björn Ulvaeus, Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Anderson, and Anni-Frid Lyngstad are now retired. Despite this, the tribute continues to keep their music alive.

Lindell’s career began at 16 with a role on the Swedish soap opera ‘Tre kronor.’ “Performing is my passion,” Lindell said, expressing a desire to return to film and television.

A unique challenge for Lindell’s live performances involves handling stage effects. “Natural fog is preferred over theatrical haze, which affects our singing,” she explained.
