Scottie Scheffler showcased his dominance at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, securing a decisive victory by eight strokes over Si Woo Kim, who finished in second place. This win in Memphis, Tennessee, came after Scheffler endured five runner-up finishes this season. His reaction to the victory was shared in an interview with CBS Sports’ Amanda Balionis.
“I’ve had some close calls this year. I feel like I’m playing pretty well, just little things weren’t going my way,” Scheffler reflected.
During the tournament, Scheffler faced a setback when one of his shots deflected off a sprinkler system and landed in the water. Despite this, he maintained his focus and determination.
“Going into today, I wanted to do my best and execute,” he noted. “I stayed in it and was able to relax.”
Before this victory, Scheffler’s last tournament win had been at the American Express Golf Tournament in January. He finished in second place at the 3M Open, Cadillac Championship, RBC Heritage, Travelers Championship, and The Masters this year.
Balionis highlighted Scheffler’s statistical success this season and inquired about what made him most proud.
“I think I’ve been really consistent,” Scheffler responded. “Outside of Amex, I felt like I was battling my swing a bit. But staying consistent is what I’m most proud of. It’s nice to pay it off with a win this week.”
This latest triumph marks Scheffler’s second win of the season and his 21st career PGA Tour victory. He has become the third-youngest golfer to reach 21 wins, following Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus.
Securing the St. Jude Championship win placed Scheffler at the top of the FedEx Cup standings. Matt Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young follow behind, with 1,447 and 1,690 points respectively.
With this victory, Scheffler might have rediscovered his winning form after multiple close finishes this season. He will next compete at the BMW Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Missouri.
