Reflections on the Impact of Charlie Kirk’s Assassination at Evangel Christian Academy

Nearly a year after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, Fox Nation examines how this tragic event has influenced a Christian high school in Louisiana. The reality series, “God. Family. Football.,” in its third season, showcases how Denny Duron, the school’s pastor and head football coach, supports his team amidst the 2025 season challenges.

In episode two, Duron pays homage to Kirk, the Turning Point USA leader. He shares, “That young man was a young man I admired,” emphasizing the different ways they both communicated their faith. Duron used football, while Kirk chose politics.

“There is a spirit of anger in the world today,” says Duron during a practice. “There is no reason for you ever to be angry and commit a sin. If Jesus forgave you, for everything that he forgave you for and forgave me for, then you can not hold anything against anybody for any reason. That’s what Christianity is all about.”

Duron encourages players to transform anger into peace and leads a moment of silence for Kirk.

In the classroom, offensive coordinator Kramer Hagan, who also teaches civics, facilitates a discussion on Kirk’s death. He expresses eagerness to hear students’ thoughts on this significant incident.

Hagan cautions students against dehumanizing others’ beliefs, stating, “Jesus doesn’t teach us to be that way. He wants you to fight and argue and defend your beliefs, but you can never lose your humanity in the process.”

Charlie Kirk was killed during an event in Utah. The Evangel Christian Academy team faces numerous challenges throughout the season, dealing with political tensions and personal hardships such as battles with serious illnesses.
