Young America’s Foundation has teamed up with the “Reagan” film to exhibit sets and props from the movie. This collection will become a permanent attraction at the new museum in Dixon, Illinois. It will complement YAF’s stewardship of Reagan’s Boyhood Home in Dixon, alongside the historic Reagan Ranch, known as “Rancho del Cielo,” in Santa Barbara, California.
Exhibit Features
The museum will feature a full-scale replica of the Oval Office, the Situation Room, the office of the Soviet leader, and the wall of the Hilton Hotel where Reagan was shot. Hundreds of artifacts from the film will also be included. The museum’s grand opening is planned for 2028.
Scott Walker, YAF President and former Wisconsin Governor, expressed the significance of bringing students and families to Dixon to learn about President Reagan. Walker hopes the museum will deepen guests’ understanding of the actor-turned-president.
Reagan’s Midwest Influence
Walker highlighted Reagan’s learning from the Midwest and its impact on his public life. He shared hopes that visitors, especially students and families, will explore Reagan’s experiences and influences. These life lessons contributed to Reagan’s role as one of the 20th century’s great leaders.
Bringing down communism, bringing patriotism back to America, and revitalizing our economy.
These themes will be explored through the museum’s displays, connecting visitors to Reagan’s ideas and legacy.
Community Engagement
Mark Joseph, “Reagan” producer, praised Young America’s Foundation for preserving Reagan’s legacy. He stated the film artifacts will help visitors experience Reagan’s humble origins. The museum aims to be a gathering place for fans of the movie.
During Dixon’s 2024 “Reagan” premiere, lead actor Dennis Quaid showed his support by attending and engaging with local residents. He addressed the disconnect between Hollywood and small towns.
Anticipated Museum Opening
Walker anticipates significant interest in the museum, spurred by local engagement during the film premiere. He noted Dennis Quaid’s commitment to personally involving himself with the Dixon event and Reagan’s story.
Walker recounted Reagan’s modest upbringing, emphasizing lessons of humility. He described Reagan’s family struggles and the resilience demonstrated by his mother, who supported the family through odd jobs and philanthropy.
Reagan’s journey serves as a testament to the American Dream; success is not reliant on privilege or wealth. Walker emphasized this message is powerful for inspiring the next generation.
Director’s Cut Release
The announcement coincides with the preparation for a director’s cut release of the “Reagan” film, featuring additional footage. This release is set for national distribution starting September 25.
Walker noted a stark contrast between critics and audiences’ reception of the film. The audience gave a high score of 98%, compared to a lower critics score. He attributed critics’ negativity to elitism, paralleling Reagan’s political reception during his presidency.
Legacy and Impact
Reagan’s presidency was initially met with skepticism, yet he achieved significant political success. YAF’s endeavors ensure his legacy remains accessible for upcoming generations. The museum’s opening will serve as another medium for appreciating Reagan’s contributions and understanding his leadership and ideas.
