President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to a historic low during his second term according to a recent poll. The Reuters/Ipsos poll reveals that only 33% of respondents approve of his performance in the White House. This is a decrease from the previous week’s 35% approval. The survey, which included 1,166 participants, also shows 64% disapproval of Trump’s job performance.
Trump’s approval rating reached this same level in December 2017, during his first term. His current standing ties his past lowest rating as commander in chief according to Reuters/Ipsos data.

Economic Concerns Amid War
The ongoing war in Iran has become a significant concern for Americans. According to the poll, 80% of respondents believe the conflict will last for an extended period. This war began in February with a mission to dismantle Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Complications arose from Iranian actions in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passage for global oil supply.
A fifth of the world’s oil passes through this strait, impacting gas prices significantly. Since the war’s start, average gas prices nationwide surged from under $3 per gallon to over $4, based on data from the American Automobile Association (AAA).
“Remember that when you have to pay a little bit more, $4, it’s OK,” President Trump remarked at a recent rally in New York, defending the price increase. “I did the right thing,” he stated, asserting that he wouldn’t apologize for his decisions.
Inflation and Economic Challenges
Inflation has increased since the conflict began. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that year-over-year inflation rose from 2.4% in February to 3.4%.
White House spokesperson Olivia Wales responded to questions about the polling, emphasizing Trump’s economic achievements. “President Trump has signed the largest middle-class tax cuts in history, lowered the cost of prescription drugs, sealed the border, driven violent crime to the lowest level in nearly a century, unleashed an energy revolution, and sent Americans’ 401(k)s climbing to record highs,” she told Fox News Digital.
Political Implications
Gas prices in Los Angeles have shown a recent decline following a U.S.-Iran agreement easing global oil supply concerns. However, analysts caution that relief may not last due to refinery constraints and other factors.
Democrats are utilizing the Iran war and economic issues as key points in their campaign to regain control of the House and Senate. Reuters/Ipsos findings indicate only 35% of Americans back the war effort, highlighting the potential political leverage.
The White House has not disclosed a timeline for ending the conflict, leaving the future uncertain.
