The Sox entered this series leading the division by 2.5 games over the Cleveland Guardians, while the Twins were 6.5 games behind.
White Sox pitcher Davis Martin highlighted the team’s focus, noting the advice from playoff-seasoned veterans. “They understand the importance of just taking care of your day-to-day,” Martin said. “We’re having fun, enjoying each other, and trying to win a game at a time.”
White Sox Performance
Entering Friday, the White Sox held a 70-63 record and led the season series against the Twins 4-3, outscoring them 45-25. The Sox had a successful run against Minnesota in May, winning three of four games, with the only loss coming in extra innings. Chase Meidroth shone with a grand slam during a 15-2 win on May 27.
Meidroth has performed well against the Twins, going 10-for-29 (.345) with two doubles, one home run, and seven RBIs in seven games.
The White Sox won a game at Target Field in early June with Erick Fedde as the starting pitcher, projecting him to start on Saturday. The Sox meet the Twins five more times after Friday and have three remaining games against the Guardians. Manager Venable remarked, “Every one of these clubs in our division are really good. Even the Royals…they’re playing really, really good baseball.” He stressed the importance of handling each game responsibly to secure success.
Cleveland Guardians
The Guardians, with a 68-66 record, have gained momentum with a seven-game winning streak. They faced the Royals in three games this weekend and have a nearly balanced record against division teams. Their remaining schedule includes games against the Tigers, Twins, and an important series against the White Sox.
Minnesota Twins
The Twins, standing at 64-70, will face numerous division opponents in the coming weeks, including the Sox and Tigers. Despite being outscored by the Guardians, the Twins maintain a lead in their season series. Their record against the AL Central is nearly even. If the Tigers wish to re-enter the division race, they need a significant improvement in their 13-25 division record. They have 14 division games left against the Twins, Guardians, and White Sox.
