Woman Indicted for Vandalism of World War II Memorial

1 month ago 0

The World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., was the focus of a vandalism case leading to the formal indictment of Melissa Farris. Farris faces charges of destruction of a veterans’ memorial and government property. Authorities report that Farris spray-painted ‘Clean hands, dirty money’ in pink and poured bubble soap into the memorial’s fountain.

The incident occurred on August 13, and the cleanup costs have surpassed $1,000, according to federal prosecutors. Farris recorded a Facebook live admitting to the vandalism prior to her arrest on August 14. In her video, she stated, ‘It’s me. I am going to turn myself in,’ expressing her intent to make a statement and seek media attention.

Farris claimed she resided in a camper, insulated with cardboard for warmth during the winter. Fox News Digital sought comments from the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Upon her charging, U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro condemned the vandalism, labeling it a disrespectful act against those who fought in World War II, including her own relatives. The charges carry potential penalties of up to ten years in prison.

Earlier comments from President Donald Trump included harsh criticism via Truth Social, emphasizing the insult to World War II heroes. Trump expressed frustration, asking, ‘Where do these animals come from?’ He linked previous vandalism at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool to the current incident. Though charges against Olympic canoeist David Hearn for vandalism at the Reflecting Pool were dropped, investigations suggested renovation errors as the cause.

U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche publicly supported Pirro’s decision on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press,’ acknowledging Trump’s disagreement with dropping the charges related to the previous vandalism incident.
