Koivun Joins U.S. Team for Presidents Cup After Leaving Auburn

1 month ago 0

Jackson Koivun has been added to the U.S. team for the Presidents Cup. His selection comes just three months after exiting Auburn. Koivun is one of two new additions to the American team, which has been unbeaten for 28 years. The 21-year-old golfer achieved victory at the 3M Open in his third professional start. He also reached the PGA Tour postseason in merely five tournaments.

Koivun becomes the first player since 2013, when Jordan Spieth achieved the same, to start a year without a tour card and secure a position in the Presidents Cup. U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker also selected Jacob Bridgeman, who had a win at Riviera this year. Snedeker overlooked Ryan Gerard, ranked 22nd in the world, despite his strong performance at the Tour Championship, where he finished third.

International captain Geoff Ogilvy chose two Canadian players, Corey Conners and Nick Taylor. Ryo Hisatsune was also selected. The International team now has two Japanese players for the first time since 1998, with Hideki Matsuyama already earning one of the automatic spots.

The Presidents Cup will occur from September 24-27 at Medinah Country Club. Renovations were carried out by Ogilvy’s Australia-based golf course design company.
