The U.S. Marshals Service announced a significant success in recovering missing and endangered children throughout Ohio. This initiative, known as Operation Meridian, marks the largest missing child operation in the state’s history.
Conducted during August, Operation Meridian was a collaborative effort involving federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. The operation concluded with the recovery of 79 children, aged between 6 and 17, from various locations across the state. The children had been reported missing due to issues such as suspected sex trafficking, physical and emotional abuse, neglect, and other forms of endangerment.
The U.S. Marshals Service, in a Tuesday news release, emphasized the widespread coordination with local police agencies, state organizations, and federal partners. This effort extended to locating children as far away as Georgia.
“I am very proud of our dedicated law enforcement, community, and media partners who worked tirelessly to bring our missing and most vulnerable children to safety,” stated U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott. “Every recovered child represents a life pulled back from danger.”
