Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Face Challenges Amid Return to the UK

3 weeks ago 0

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to come back to the United Kingdom may impact their Hollywood prospects. Eric Schiffer, chair of Reputation Management Consultants, shared with Newsweek that this move could severely affect their stardom in America. According to Schiffer, their experiences have been challenging, akin to facing relentless adversity.

The Duke and Duchess returned in late August but haven’t sold their California home, indicating a temporary return. Meanwhile, they have ongoing Netflix projects such as adaptations of Carley Fortune’s Meet Me at the Lake and Major Adam Jowett’s memoir No Way Out. Whether they aim to continue engaging in American media projects remains uncertain, raising questions about their financial ambitions and Hollywood perception.

Challenges in the U.S.

Initially, Harry and Meghan showed promise in the U.S. Through agreements with Netflix and Spotify, they launched the Archewell Foundation, now Archewell Philanthropies. However, recent years have proven difficult. Harry’s memoir, Spare, drew mockery, particularly on personal anecdotes. Their Spotify deal ended abruptly in June with only Meghan’s Archetypes podcast established. Criticism followed from Spotify’s Bill Simmons, who labeled them negatively.

Meghan’s lifestyle series, With Love, Meghan, received unfavorable reviews. Its subsequent releases failed to gain significant Netflix traction. These losses compelled the duo to prove their success in the U.S., a task further complicated by their recent return to the U.K.

“Their move back is partially seen as a retreat,” Schiffer commented. “They encountered adversity due to unforced errors and credibility issues. However, they excelled when advocating for causes resonating with youth.”

Schiffer added that focusing too much on perceived victimization overshadowed their effective advocacy work. Their return to Britain has left them viewed unfavorably by some.

The Implications of Returning

Though uncertain, the couple hasn’t confirmed a permanent relocation and retains their Santa Barbara property. Speculation arose about Meghan’s potential return to acting. Rumors of her involvement in Netflix’s The Gentleman were refuted by clarifying details. Experts like Schiffer doubt any substantial Hollywood comeback.

Schiffer himself suggested that while American stardom appears unreachable, there might be limited acting opportunities. However, he emphasized that their strengths lie in philanthropy, advocating for their return to meaningful engagements.

Prince Harry’s Upcoming Commitments

In September, Prince Harry is set to re-engage with charity work. His plans include attending the first Invictus Spirit Awards, honoring individuals and groups aligned with Invictus movement principles. He will also launch INSPIRE, an educational initiative tied to the stories of Invictus participants, aiming to enrich school curriculums. As a focal point, Harry will interact with children by playing pickleball, showcasing a hands-on approach.

Returning to roots with the WellChild Awards in London, Harry continues his long-standing patronage, supporting seriously ill children and their families since 2007. His presence will involve meeting participants and delivering a speech, reinforcing his dedication to charitable causes.
