Danny DeVito shared vivid memories of the wild nights that followed filming the iconic sitcom “Taxi.” During an interview on the “All the Smoke” podcast, DeVito recalled the all-night parties marked by loud music and, as he described, “crudité and cocaine.” He humorously referred to these gatherings as typical of the 1980s.
These vibrant parties often attracted well-known figures from beyond the “Taxi” cast. DeVito mentioned celebrity guests such as Robin Williams and Michael Jackson, who was an enthusiastic fan of the show. The parties also welcomed cast members from shows like “Laverne & Shirley,” and personalities like John Belushi from “SNL.” DeVito described these post-show celebrations as a time when the cast would transition directly from filming to partying until sunrise.
“Taxi” ran from 1978 to 1983, making DeVito a household name through his portrayal of Louie De Palma. His performance was awarded with both an Emmy and a Golden Globe, solidifying his position in Hollywood. The sitcom included a talented ensemble cast with actors such as Judd Hirsch, Marilu Henner, Tony Danza, Christopher Lloyd, Jeff Conaway, and Andy Kaufman.
DeVito reflected on the incredible experience, emphasizing the dedication of the show’s writers. He praised them for their perseverance and humor, describing how they tirelessly worked with the cast.
Beyond “Taxi,” DeVito’s career flourished. He took on roles in films like “Twins,” “Batman Returns,” and “Matilda.” Since 2006, he has captivated a new generation of fans with his role as Frank Reynolds on the show “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”
