Ben Affleck Talks Luxury Items and Parenting

Ben Affleck recently discussed his son Samuel’s interest in luxury items during an appearance on Kerry Washington’s podcast, “Street You Grew Up On.” At 14, Samuel seems to have inherited Affleck’s taste for high-end things, including Lamborghinis. Years ago, Samuel was involved in a minor incident when he accidentally backed a Lamborghini into another car at a dealership.

Affleck shares three children, Samuel, Violet, 20, and Fin, 17, with ex-wife Jennifer Garner. Affleck recounted how Samuel requested a Lamborghini. He humorously rebuffed the idea, questioning whether he should be seen driving a flashy car.

Affleck said, “My son’s like, ‘Dad, you should get a Lambo.’ And I’m like, ‘What? Am I an a–hole in a yellow Lamborghini driving around?'”

Affleck recalled the incident with the Lamborghini, noting Samuel had once inadvertently reversed the vehicle into a BMW when he was 10. He shared how they inspected for damage and received reassurance from the dealership that there were no hard feelings.

Samuel’s fascination with expensive items extends beyond cars. In March, Samuel admired a $6,000 pair of Dior x Nike sneakers at an event. Affleck humorously pointed out to Samuel that earning them would require mowing a lot of lawns, teaching the value of hard work.

Affleck quipped, “You do not need thousand-dollar shoes! I’m like, ‘I have the money, you’re broke!'”

Affleck co-parents his children with Garner. He stresses teaching them the importance of earning what they want and not relying on their parents’ success. While Affleck aims to make his children proud, he revealed they are largely indifferent to his Hollywood achievements.

His children consider his social media meme presence more impressive than his movie career. Affleck recalled struggling to carry multiple Dunkin’ iced coffees and becoming a viral meme for it. Later, he formed a partnership with Dunkin’ and starred in a Super Bowl commercial.

Affleck shared, “I’m relevant for being this beleaguered, depressed man.”

Despite his fame, Affleck’s most relatable achievement, according to his kids, was becoming a viral meme.
