A tragic incident has claimed the lives of three family members, including a trailblazing former San Francisco deputy police chief. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office has reported the deaths of Ann Mannix, 65, her 24-year-old daughter Katie, and her 68-year-old husband, retired police sergeant Kevin Mannix. The suspected murder-suicide was allegedly committed by Kevin Mannix.

Miguel Almaguer, the public information officer for Marin County Sheriff’s Office, released a statement indicating the suspected shooter is male and confirmed Kevin Mannix as the shooter. However, details about any evidence found in the home remain undisclosed.

“The preliminary investigation indicates a suspected double-murder suicide involving three individuals,” Almaguer stated.

The heartbreaking news delivered a shock to the San Francisco Police Officers Association. Louis Wong, its president, expressed profound sadness over the tragic loss of retired Deputy Chief Ann Mannix, her daughter Katie, and retired Sergeant Kevin Mannix.

“The tragic loss…has left our entire SFPD family reeling. There are no words that can fully capture the depth of this tragedy,” Wong declared.

On Sunday around 5 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 call from a residence in Mill Valley. Another resident, who had safely escaped, made the call. Upon entering, deputies discovered the deceased family members.

Ann Mannix had gained recognition as the first woman to join and lead the SWAT team in San Francisco. Her contributions extended to youth sports and the city’s Police Activities League. Former officer Lou Barberini remarked on Mannix’s competence and popularity, noting her skills as an athlete and law enforcement officer.

Autopsies for the victims have been scheduled, offering further insights into this distressing incident.
