NFL hearing officer Derrick Brooks decided to reduce the suspension of Los Angeles Rams tackle Alaric Jackson from two games to one. The incident occurred when Jackson struck Buffalo Bills edge rusher Bradley Chubb following a close game. The match, held at SoFi Stadium, resulted in a 37-34 overtime victory for Buffalo.
After the game, Jackson removed his gear and, during the postgame handshake, punched Chubb. He later claimed the action was provoked by Chubb’s remarks about his mother. Chubb chose not to retaliate. This decision from Brooks saves Jackson approximately $934,555 from his $16.8 million base salary. The reduction means he will only lose one game check instead of two.
“They always catch the second guy, so I let him swing, and then my teammates held me back, and I just chilled,” Chubb stated after the game.
Jackson will miss the upcoming game against the Arizona Cardinals but can return in Week 7 against the Las Vegas Raiders.
The official suspension statement noted that Jackson’s actions violated Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1, which concerns sportsmanship principles. This wasn’t Jackson’s first disciplinary issue. He faced suspension at the start of the 2024 season due to unconsented phone recordings and was involved in a separate incident related to a domestic violence arrest.
