Rallies organized by the No Kings network, opposed to President Donald Trump, were held on Saturday across the U.S. Their goal was to encourage early voting in the midterm elections. The events, marketed as nonpartisan, were built on almost two years of No Kings marches and protests expressing dissatisfaction with Trump’s presidency.
In Washington, D.C., at the Lincoln Memorial, a band performed for several hundred people on Saturday. Despite the cold, attendees donned caps and coats, dancing to the music. Signs reading “VOTE EARLY” and “HANDS OFF MY VOTE!” were lifted high.
In Atlanta, City Councilman Michael Julian Bond addressed a rally, encouraging the audience to get others to vote before the November 3 general election. He stated, “The constitution gives you one power, right? That is the power to vote. Are you going to use that power?” Bond further compared voting power to superhero abilities, urging, “Be a superhero, use your power. Go to the polls and vote.”
The Manhattan rally in New York City also drew demonstrators as part of a nationwide effort to promote early voting before the midterms.
President Trump has expressed skepticism about mail voting, alleging voter fraud in the 2020 election without providing evidence. His administration recently sued California election officials, seeking a court order to prevent the state from counting mail-in ballots from people identified as “likely” noncitizens until their status is confirmed.
On Friday, the Justice Department cautioned local officials against processing ballots from suspected noncitizen voters, citing potential risks of criminal investigation. Senators Alex Padilla, Sheldon Whitehouse, and Dick Durbin urged Attorney General Todd Blanche to ensure the Justice Department refrains from seizing election materials before certification of the midterm results.
