The rise in Pokemon card theft across California and beyond is becoming a concern. Matt Finn reports on the latest incidents highlighting the seriousness of the issue.
Robberies Escalate in San Francisco and Brentwood
In San Francisco, juvenile suspects were recently arrested for involvement in a robbery using pepper spray and advanced tools. Meanwhile, in Brentwood, CA, thieves in masks swiftly stole cards worth thousands in less than a minute. Following this, the store owner increased security measures.
High-Profile Theft in Santa Ana
A major heist occurred outside Professional Sports Authenticators (PSA) in Santa Ana, where about $963,000 worth of trading cards were taken from a FedEx truck. The cards, including sports and Pokemon varieties, were in more than 200 packages. Police noted the theft happened when the driver was away from the vehicle.
Impact on Collectors and Businesses
Card collector and YouTube creator, SKY-B, expressed frustration after losing 104 cards, many labeled as ‘irreplaceable’ due to their rarity. Collectors, the company involved, stated they have deactivated the certifications for the stolen items. They are working with marketplace partners and law enforcement to retrieve the cards.
Collectors’ customer service team is coordinating compensation for affected clients, based on fair market value. They emphasized the emotional value collectors attach to these cards and their commitment to addressing the situation seriously, aiming to hold the culprits accountable.
Current Status and Future Actions
No arrests have been made, and none of the stolen cards have been recovered yet. The company continues to collaborate closely with authorities to resolve the thefts and prevent future incidents from occurring.
