Sunny Hostin, co-host of “The View,” revisited the significant question she posed to former Vice President Kamala Harris in 2024. During a recent event, Hostin labeled Harris’s response as ‘problematic’ due to her refusal to distance herself from then-President Joe Biden. This moment was highlighted by the show’s executive producer, Brian Teta, as a pivotal one in the 2024 election cycle.
Hostin viewed her question as beneficial, expecting Harris to acknowledge the administration’s successes while asserting her unique experiences as a woman of color and a child of immigrants. However, Harris’s lack of a specific answer took Hostin by surprise and was seen as problematic.
“I was expecting Harris to speak about her contributions and distinct background; her response, however, raised concerns,” Hostin stated.
The incident gained further attention in Harris’s memoir, “107 Days,” where Harris expressed regret for her response. She recounted how her staff was unsettled by her answer, realizing its potential repercussions. After a commercial break, her team advised Harris to revisit the question and emphasize her plans for bipartisan cooperation by appointing a Republican to her cabinet.
The topic continued to be a point of discussion among “The View” co-hosts. Ana Navarro highlighted the immediate concern from Harris’s staff, who urged a follow-up response. Both Navarro and fellow co-host Sara Haines questioned Harris’s candidacy for future elections, citing a need for fresh energy within the Democratic Party.
Joy Behar, another co-host, has repeatedly expressed skepticism about a female president being elected, noting the previous defeats of Harris and Hillary Clinton. Behar suggested that a male candidate might increase the Democrats’ chances in the 2028 election.
In a previous episode of “The View,” Hostin wondered if Harris’s pursuit of the presidency was the best choice and mentioned that a gubernatorial run in California might have been more suitable. Nicholas Fondacaro from the Media Research Center criticized “The View” for acting as a supportive platform for Democratic candidates, questioning the appropriateness of Hostin’s intentions.
