Three Democrats from Virginia focused their campaign efforts on the impact of the ongoing war in Iran during a rally in Henrico County on Monday. This event, featuring former representative Elaine Luria, former representative Tom Perriello, and Henrico County prosecutor Shannon Taylor, spotlighted the war’s effects beyond merely influencing gas prices.
Elaine Luria highlighted the concerns, stating, “This war … is sending our sailors overseas under an administration that’s lying about the number of casualties.” She emphasized the impact on military families in Virginia, a state heavily reliant on military operations.
Luria contends against Rep. Jen Kiggans in Virginia’s 2nd District, a region significant for its Navy installations. Similarly, Shannon Taylor targets Rep. Rob Wittman in the 1st District over his war stance, and Tom Perriello is contesting Rep. John McGuire in the 5th District, aiming to reclaim the seat he held till 2010.
Former transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg joined the rally to energize the Democratic base, advocating for securing a majority in the House by winning four additional seats. He encouraged the attendees, stressing the importance of Virginia in this political effort.
“The road to that majority runs right through here, and it depends on you,” Buttigieg told over 200 enthusiastic supporters.
