Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) recently reported a substantial increase in campaign funds following a federal investigation. The Washington Post analysis revealed that Omar raised over $1.5 million on the day and the day after federal authorities searched her home in Washington earlier this month.
In total, during the first two weeks of October, Omar’s campaign reported raising nearly $1.9 million according to the Federal Election Commission. Notably, $847,000 was collected on October 12, the day of the raid, marking her campaign’s highest daily collection for this election cycle. An additional $665,000 came in the following day.
In her overall campaign cycle, Omar has gathered more than $8 million. The raid was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations, as part of a federal probe into whether Omar or her father falsified immigration documents in the 1990s when they immigrated to the U.S. Omar, who was 12 years old at the time, has vehemently denied any wrongdoing with these forms and considered the raid a politically motivated act.
Omar is seeking donations to cover legal expenses. In a recent social media message, she highlighted the financial challenges ahead due to this situation.
