Republican Mike Rogers Criticizes Rival Abdul El-Sayed at Michigan Town Hall

1 day ago 0

Republican Michigan Senate candidate Mike Rogers took a critical stance against his Democratic opponent, Abdul El-Sayed, during a town hall meeting hosted by Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Monday. Rogers warned voters about the potential harm El-Sayed’s policies could inflict on the state.

Rogers accused El-Sayed of consistently misleading voters, labeling him a “manufactured candidate.” He claimed that El-Sayed has distorted his political stances, portraying him as the “most extreme candidate.” Rogers highlighted El-Sayed’s support for defunding the police and releasing prisoners, as well as advocating for the Green New Deal, which Rogers argued would be detrimental to Michigan.

Rogers emphasized the strength of his campaign’s ground operation, noting that volunteers have knocked on nearly 6 million doors across the state. He described the enthusiasm as significant, reporting feedback from voters expressing their intent to vote and reject turning Michigan into a Democratic Socialist America (DSA) state.

In an appeal to voters traditionally aligned with Democrats, Rogers suggested his campaign is resonating across party lines.

Rogers later addressed questions from attendees, including a Jewish woman concerned about displaying her religious identity publicly. He mentioned having heard similar accounts from Jewish students at the University of Michigan, who felt compelled to hide their religious symbols due to harassment.

Focusing on practical issues such as housing, education, and skilled trades, Rogers expressed a desire to facilitate home buying for young adults and attract more defense industry jobs to Michigan. He advocated for reintegrating shop classes in high schools to expand students’ pathways to lucrative careers.

Rogers concluded by reiterating his criticism of El-Sayed’s proposals, asserting that Michigan “cannot afford” them and that the state should avoid risking El-Sayed’s ideology.

Efforts to reach El-Sayed’s campaign for comment were unsuccessful. Sophia Compton of Fox News Digital authored this report. She has a background in business reporting, covering finance, energy, and tourism, and is a University of Hawaii at Manoa journalism graduate.
