Two police officers who were involved in defending the U.S. Capitol during the events of January 6, 2021, have initiated a federal legal action against a significant monetary fund. Officers Harry Dunn and Daniel Hodges argue that this fund, promoted by the Trump administration, contravenes federal law and could potentially validate political violence through its offerings.
The lawsuit, filed on a recent Wednesday, aims to obstruct the distribution of approximately $1.8 billion. This fund is intended for individuals who assert they were unjustly targeted by a so-called ‘weaponized’ legal system. According to the officers, approving such a fund would set a precarious precedent.
Both officers, alongside Michael Fanone and Aquilino Gonell, previously testified in 2021 in front of a House panel regarding their experiences during the riot. Their testimonies provided crucial firsthand accounts of the events and highlighted the intensity and severity of the situation at the Capitol.
