1 month ago 0

NASCAR CEO Steve O’Donnell delivered a heartfelt tribute to Kyle Busch’s widow, Samantha, and their children, Brexton and Lennix, at the Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte. O’Donnell stood on the frontstretch at Charlotte Motor Speedway, expressing the family’s importance to NASCAR. He addressed Samantha directly, assuring her of the sport’s unwavering support.

The tribute was emotional, with Samantha embracing 11-year-old Brexton, both wearing T-shirts saying ‘Battle of the Busches.’ Kyle’s older brother, Kurt, and parents, Tom and Gaye, were present. O’Donnell emphasized Kyle’s unique contribution to NASCAR, calling him irreplaceable.

Charlotte Motor Speedway and the greater NASCAR community honored Busch’s memory extensively. The track featured a large No. 8 and Busch’s signature on the grass. Before the race, the U.S. Army Golden Knights presented Busch’s flag. Each of the 39 participating cars bore Busch’s decal, and during the pace lap, the cars arranged in the missing man formation. The eighth lap was observed in silence by the announcers and the public address system.

On Saturday, Layne Riggs celebrated his Trucks Series win by mimicking Busch’s signature bows. Ross Chastain paid a similar tribute after his rain-shortened victory. Joey Logano, a fellow Cup Series driver, praised Busch’s enduring legacy in racing.

Fans at Charlotte arrived wearing shirts with ‘Rowdy’ and ‘KFB,’ showing their support. In addition, the Indianapolis 500 made gestures in Busch’s honor. Dale Coyne Racing altered the font on Romain Grosjean’s car to match Busch’s former design during his time with Joe Gibbs Racing. The Indianapolis scoring pylon lit up with a tribute including Busch’s name, birth year, and the year 2026 during lap 18.

The news of Busch’s passing resonated deeply within the racing community. Katherine Legge and Josef Newgarden, both deeply affected, reflected on his impact and pondered life’s fragility. Busch’s record 234 victories across NASCAR’s national series left a significant mark on the sport.
