Knicks Triumph Over Cavaliers

The New York Knicks showcased their skill on Saturday night in Cleveland. They defeated the Cavaliers 121-108, gaining a 3-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals. Jalen Brunson led with 30 points, shooting 10 of 19 from the field and 10 of 12 from the free-throw line. Mikal Bridges contributed significantly with 22 points from 11 of 15 attempts. OG Anunoby also added 21 points along with seven rebounds and four assists, achieving a remarkable 60% shooting accuracy, 75% from beyond the arc, and perfect accuracy from the free-throw line.

NBA All-Defensive Team Controversy

While the Knicks celebrated their victory, the NBA All-Defensive team announcements stirred discussions. Prior to the Western Conference Finals clash between the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs, the NBA revealed the 2025-26 All-Defensive teams. The first team featured Victor Wembanyama, Chet Holmgren, Ausar Thompson, Rudy Gobert, and Derrick White.

OG Anunoby earned a spot on the second team after receiving 67 voting points, which included 11 first-place votes and 45 second-place votes. He joined Scottie Barnes, Cason Wallace, Bam Adebayo, and Dyson Daniels on the second team. Following Game 3, Knicks head coach Mike Brown criticized the voters, asserting, “Freakin’ OG got robbed. He should’ve been first team all defense. The versatility that guy brings to this team is off the charts, and I hope the voters get it right next time around. I’m happy he’s on the second team. He deserves something, but it was wrong.”

Anunoby’s Defensive Achievements

Anunoby’s performance during the 2025-26 season was notable for his two-way capabilities. He averaged 16.7 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.7 steals per game across 67 games. His steals per game tied him for 3rd in the NBA. He was among the few players averaging over 0.6 blocks per game alongside Ausar Thompson and Tyrese Maxey.

Anunoby’s 3.2 Defensive Win Share was his highest since the 2021-22 season when he achieved 3.7. He even received votes for Defensive Player of the Year. Despite his standout performance, this marks only the second All-Defensive team appearance in his career. Fans and analysts expressed their views on the selection process, adding pressure on voters for future seasons.

As the Knicks prepare for a potential series-clinching Game 4 on Monday in Cleveland, Coach Brown’s comments fuel the team’s motivation. Anunoby’s efforts and recognition will continue to be a key focus as the playoffs progress.
