AI as a Digital Companion in Education

The Hechinger Report explores both inequality and innovation within the educational sector, highlighting how education can be enhanced and its significance. In an effort to engage students actively, I encourage them to examine fictional character bots in my English and writing classes.

Upon first assigning this intriguing project, I felt concerned about possibly introducing my students to an addictive engagement with Character.AI. This chatbot environment captures the attention of young minds effectively by providing companionship without resistance. It never declines, tires, or challenges, aligning precisely with what one might presume students desire in a digital friend.
