ICE Agents Assist TSA Amid Shutdown
President Trump has deployed ICE agents to U.S. airports to address security delays due to a government shutdown. TSA staff face financial hardship with zero-dollar paychecks for 37 days, affecting spring break travel. ICE will handle routine tasks to cut wait times and maintain security.
With worker shortages, administration officials Tom Homan and Sean Duffy confirm ICE’s role to ensure smoother airport operations.
Arrest at Southwest Airlines
A Southwest Airlines flight attendant, Lorenzo Thompson, a Jamaican citizen, was arrested for overstaying his visa. ICE officials made the arrest on July 14 in Nashville, Tennessee. Thompson’s visa expired on October 16, 2021.
ICE states Thompson remained in the U.S. illegally and is in their custody pending proceedings. It offers illegal immigrants $2,600 and a free flight for self-deportation, urging lawful return attempts.
Community Support and Legal Aid
TWU Local 556, representing Southwest Airlines flight attendants, confirmed Thompson’s arrest and supports him. An online campaign collects funds for his legal costs, highlighting his dedication and pending asylum case.
“Since arriving, he has worked tirelessly to build a stable life, following every legal step toward citizenship,” the page states.
ICE remains committed to strict immigration laws, encouraging legal compliance to fulfill the American dream.
