Comedian and talk show host Bill Maher reiterated his criticism of the Democratic Party’s perceived shift towards socialism. On his HBO show “Real Time,” Maher discussed his concerns about what he sees as radical, socialist views gaining influence in mainstream Democratic politics.

Maher’s Concerns with Democratic Socialists

Maher expressed that his voting decision is uncertain in upcoming elections, citing his disapproval of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) agenda. During a recent episode, he stated his refusal to support candidates who align with these views. Maher emphasized, “People gotta realize this is going on. Yes, my vote is in play. I’m not voting for anyone who thinks the wrong side won the Cold War or cheers for the intifada like it’s the World Cup.”

Irony and Political Takeover

Maher highlighted what he perceives as irony in the political takeover by the DSA within a party known for opposing colonization. He referenced an initiative by Representatives Tom Suozzi and Adam Gray, aimed at moderating the party’s stance amid rising DSA influence. Maher noted that only eight out of 212 Democratic congressional members signed a pledge to uphold capitalist values over socialist ones.

“It’s so ironic from the people who obsess about colonization,” Maher commented. “You know what’s being colonized now? The Democratic Party.”

Concerns over Radical Policies

Maher criticized the election of politicians who, he claims, support extreme policies like abolishing police, prisons, or borders. He mentioned that while the DSA views may not reflect the majority of Democratic politicians, they are becoming increasingly prevalent within the party. “This nonsense is not where most Democratic politicians are right now,” Maher said, “but it’s also becoming a raging fire festival in the party that neither is anyone putting out.”

Reactions and Implications

Fox News Digital reported Maher expressing similar sentiments previously to ABC News, reiterating his discontent with the party’s direction. Former state attorney Dave Aronberg indicated that DSA’s platform could hinder the Democratic Party’s momentum. “History and current polling trends point to a blue wave in November, and the DSA is the only thing that can stop it,” Aronberg stated.

Christian Toto, host of The Hollywood in Toto Podcast, described Maher as “intellectually honest” and suggested that his criticism of his own party has impacted his media standing. Maher concluded his recent show by stating he would prefer voting for a long-time Republican like Sarah Palin over DSA-affiliated candidates.

“Get your head out of your a–, I would vote for Sarah Palin before this s—,” Maher stated. “She’s a bimbo, but if you asked her to come up with something she likes about America, she could do it. You betcha.”
