Billy Joel is auctioning his extensive motorcycle collection in New York City. Over 70 motorcycles will be available at Gooding Christie’s inaugural auction at Retromobile New York.
David Gooding, founder of Gooding Christie’s, noted that Joel is a true motorcycle enthusiast. The collection features various models, including older bikes and those with sidecars.
One highlight is a 1978 Triumph T140 Bonneville. This motorcycle, a gift from Madison Square Garden, commemorates Joel’s 150 sold-out performances at the venue. It is expected to fetch $10,000 to $15,000.
The auction is unique because all items will be sold without reserve. Proceeds will benefit the Joel Foundation, which supports nonprofit music education and public women’s health initiatives.
Among the collection is a 1975 Ducati 750 Sport and a 1982 Ducati 900 Mike Hailwood Replica. The latter pays tribute to Mike Hailwood’s legendary victory at the 1978 Isle of Man.
The auction will take place on November 20-21 at the Javits Center. The collection appeals not only to Billy Joel fans but also to motorcycle enthusiasts.
Billy Joel expressed his passion for motorcycles in a statement. He highlighted the craftsmanship involved in creating these bikes.
Recently, Joel underwent brain surgery following a normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) diagnosis. This condition affects individuals over 65, and treatment requires surgery to install a shunt to drain excess fluid.
