The Chicago Bears face a challenging situation following an injury to their quarterback, Caleb Williams. During a game against the Minnesota Vikings, Williams needed assistance from two trainers after suffering an injury on the field. He later headed to the team’s medical tent and was carted to the locker room for further examination.

While attempting to dodge a tackle from Vikings linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel, Williams grabbed his right hamstring and showed visible discomfort. The Bears confirmed Williams sustained a hamstring injury and did not return to the game.
Showing resilience, Williams acknowledged the crowd at Soldier Field with a thumbs-up as he left. The team awaits results from an MRI to assess the injury’s severity. Head Coach Ben Johnson stated, “We’ll know tomorrow.”
The nature of a hamstring injury, though common, raises concern about its severity. A torn hamstring may require 3 to 6 months of recovery, whereas a strain could see Williams back in 1 to 3 weeks. Tyson Bagent stepped in as the backup quarterback after Williams’ exit.
The Bears suffered a loss in the game against the Vikings, casting doubt over a season that had promising beginnings. Williams, in his third NFL season, had previously led the Bears to an 11–6 record in 2025, securing the NFC North title and a playoff spot. He had set a franchise record with 3,942 passing yards and scored 31 total touchdowns.
Carrying his momentum into 2026, Williams impressed in the opener by completing 21 of 29 passes for 269 yards and two touchdowns. Additionally, he rushed for 65 yards and scored two more touchdowns, leading the Bears to a 59-37 victory over Carolina.
Ben Johnson reflected, stating, “I’m actually happy it’s nothing with the knee. That was my first inclination. But, yeah, a hamstring could be pretty damaging as well. We’ll see how bad it is tomorrow.”
