Carville Responds to Progressive Criticism Amidst Tensions in Democratic Party

James Carville has responded to calls from progressives for him to leave the Democratic Party, highlighting ongoing tensions between the party’s moderate and progressive factions. During a segment on “Saturday in America,” Carville commented on recent statements by Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed and influencer Hasan Piker.

Piker mentioned Carville, saying, “James Carville fantasizing about leaving the party. I’m like, ‘You’re sweetening the deal.'” El-Sayed added, “Why does anybody still listen to James Carville? He said one smart thing once, which he seems to have forgotten.”

“I don’t know what I can do. I can’t take it, please mama help me,” Carville said sarcastically, before describing the comments as “vicious.”

El-Sayed, who has the backing of Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, narrowly defeated Rep. Haley Stevens in Michigan’s Democratic Senate primary and will face Republican Mike Rogers in the general election.

Sanders spoke on CNN, suggesting that if Carville feels uncomfortable with the progressives, “he can start his own party.” Carville tried to respond by questioning Sanders’ alignment with the Democratic Party and referencing his unsuccessful attempts to secure the presidential nomination.

Carville said, “When he was a socialist, I was a Democrat. I’m still a Democrat. Is he one now? I have no idea. I do know that maybe he has some animosity because he tried twice to get the Democratic nomination for president, and he failed rather spectacularly both times.”

Carville has repeatedly warned about the progressive influence in the Democratic Party. He stated in “The Sunday Briefing” that he might leave the party if figures like Piker become more influential.

“The progressive left, they’re very tech people. I think they’ve come up with an AI random stupid idea generator,” Carville remarked in reference to Francesca Hong, a progressive candidate in Wisconsin. He criticized these ideas as “things that humans can’t, like canceling Thanksgiving or being against interracial dating.”

Despite his critiques, Carville expressed confidence that El-Sayed would win the Senate seat in Michigan. “[El-Sayed’s] got some slack. He’d probably use every bit of it, but I still think he’s going to win,” he stated.
