Case Keenum Shines in Bears’ Victory Over Eagles

3 days ago 0

Case Keenum, at 38 years old, led the Chicago Bears to a convincing 27-7 win against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. This marked Keenum’s first start since Week 16 of the 2023 season. His execution of head coach Ben Johnson’s offense was impressive, capturing attention from his family and the NFL audience.

The Bears may have to reconsider rushing Caleb Williams back into play after Keenum’s standout performance. With Keenum as the third-string quarterback, Tyson Bagent usually serves as Williams’ backup, but Bagent was only cleared from concussion protocol and served as Keenum’s backup that night.

“Whatever happens today, I’m going to give God the glory. And hopefully it makes those kids proud,” Keenum stated to ESPN before the game, gesturing to his children on the field.

Keenum opened the game with short passes, quickly getting into a rhythm. He conducted an 11-play drive, culminating in Luther Burden III’s first touchdown catch of the season. Keenum consistently hit his receivers in stride and made critical pre-snap checks, even performing under defensive pressure.

Johnson did not lean heavily on the run game, allowing Keenum to maintain an effective passing strategy. This approach handed Nick Sirianni and the Eagles their first loss of the season.

Keenum concluded the game 24-of-34 for 247 yards and two passing touchdowns, plus his first rushing touchdown since 2019. His quarterback sneak on third-and-goal sealed the victory, bringing smiles and celebrations from his teammates.

This game underscored Johnson’s offensive prowess and illustrated Keenum’s ability to execute plays successfully. With Williams recovering from a challenging injury, there is no need to hasten his return.

The Bears are set to face the New York Jets in Week 4, with Keenum proving to be a dependable leader. Meanwhile, Jalen Hurts of the Eagles went 16-for-25 for 153 yards, throwing one interception and scoring a rushing touchdown. The Eagles aim to recalibrate before their upcoming game against the 1-2 Los Angeles Rams.
