“Our goal is to win the Super Bowl. I want more than that. I want to have the highest-scoring offense ever,” Johnson stated. “I want shutouts. I want blowouts,” Johnson shared with The Athletic.

Challenges and Obstacles

Receiver Luther Burden recently experienced a training camp injury, expected to sideline him for a short period this preseason. The Bears face other injury challenges with safety Coby Bryant out for six months and cornerback Kyler Gordon managing a calf issue.

Last season, the Bears defense did not record a shutout. Their best defensive performance was a 31-3 victory over the Cleveland Browns in December 2025.

Upcoming Season Expectations

With a demanding schedule ahead, as reported by ESPN, the Bears face the toughest slate in the NFL. Their preseason begins on Saturday, Aug. 15, against the Browns, who are evaluating quarterbacks Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders.

The Bears’ regular season opens against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Aug. 13, followed by a home game against a potentially improved Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Aug. 20.

Additional challenges include facing teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, and last year’s Super Bowl teams, the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. They also have intense NFC North matchups throughout the season.

According to Fox Sports, the over/under win total for Chicago stands at 9.5, with odds favoring the under. This suggests potential challenges in matching or exceeding last season’s performance.
