Kansas City Incident

Elijah Bieniemy, son of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, has been arrested for allegedly shooting his mother, Mia Bieniemy, in Ashburn, Virginia. She sustained multiple gunshot wounds but is reported to be in stable condition. Chiefs Head Coach Andy Reid has expressed support for the family amidst this distressing event.

Commanders Coach Dismissal

The Washington Commanders have fired tight ends coach Ben Steele due to a DWI arrest last month. The team’s statement confirmed Steele’s dismissal before the commencement of his first season with them. He faced charges including refusing a blood/breath test and obstructing an officer in Virginia.

Wes Welker, a former receiver for the New England Patriots and Denver Broncos, temporarily filled the coaching position during Steele’s administrative leave. A permanent replacement is anticipated soon as the Commanders gear up for their training camp.

Ben Steele’s Career

Ben Steele, a veteran tight ends coach, joined Washington after three seasons with the Arizona Cardinals. His coaching journey includes roles with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings, and Denver Broncos. Steele, who played for teams like the Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans, transitioned into coaching shortly after his playing days.

His tenure with the Cardinals contributed to the rise of tight end Trey McBride, who excelled with two Pro Bowls and an impressive All-Pro season recently.

Commanders’ Prospects

Following a challenging 5-12 season, impacted by an injury to quarterback Jayden Daniels, the Commanders aim for a comeback bolstered by new acquisitions like tight end Chig Okonkwo. They seek to replicate their prior 12-5 success season where Daniels had earned Offensive Rookie of the Year.
