A Coast Guard MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crashed on a routine training flight near Sitka, Alaska. The incident occurred on Monday morning in a sparsely populated area close to Harbor Mountain. Four crew members aboard were injured, as reported by officials.
According to a Coast Guard press release, watch standers at the Arctic District command center received notification of the crash shortly after 10 a.m. Rescue crews from Sitka Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene around 11 a.m., transporting the injured individuals to Mt. Edgecumbe Medical Center. Thankfully, no fatalities were reported.
We are incredibly relieved our crew members survived with only minor injuries,said Rear Adm. Bob Little, commander of the Coast Guard’s Arctic District.
Details surrounding the cause of the crash are still unclear, and an investigation is underway.
In recent weeks, multiple aircraft collisions have occurred. A business jet crash on a highway in Laredo, Texas resulted in one death. A B-52 aircraft also crashed during a test flight at Edwards Air Force Base in California on June 15, killing eight people. Additionally, a skydiving plane accident in Missouri resulted in twelve fatalities.
