Conor McGregor is on the path to recovery following his short-lived return to the Octagon. His fight against Max Holloway lasted less than a minute.
After a five-year break from fighting, McGregor began his bout on July 11 with an aggressive approach. He attempted a running kick and shortly after, a head kick. However, both efforts revealed a knee injury.
Despite trying to continue, McGregor was forced to grab his right leg again just under two minutes into the fight. Referee Mike Beltran ended the fight after 69 seconds due to McGregor’s torn ACL.

In a video posted to social media, McGregor shared that his surgery was successful. He expressed determination to recover.
“What’s up, folks? My knee is repaired, surgery was a success, and I’m on the road to recovery. That should tell you all you need to know about my mindset. Straight into surgery, knee repaired, and on the road. Let’s go,” McGregor stated.
McGregor mentioned athletes like Dominick Cruz, Georges St. Pierre, Tom Brady, and Adrian Peterson as motivation, highlighting their past recoveries from ACL injuries.
“My mindset is unstoppable, unbreakable. Thank you God.”
After the fight, McGregor vowed to return. He posted emotionally, describing his state of mind:
“Destroyed. I had no injuries going into the fight. This came out of nowhere. I am beyond dark here. I can only describe it as hell,” he noted on X.
The fight marked McGregor’s first since July 2021, when he faced Dustin Poirier. Since 2020, he has recorded only one victory.
