Controversy Surrounds Hasan Piker’s Remarks on American Jews and Israel

1 month ago 0

Hasan Piker, a well-known Twitch streamer, has stirred controversy among Democratic lawmakers with his recent comments about American Jews and support for Israel. Piker accused the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) of orchestrating the backlash against him and openly welcomed the criticism.

Democratic Representative Josh Gottheimer from New Jersey publicly condemned Piker’s statements, warning that such antisemitic rhetoric could incite violence. He was joined by other Democratic figures in speaking out against Piker’s remarks.

Piker responded to the criticism by suggesting the need to calculate the funds Democratic officials received from AIPAC, which he implied influenced their response to his anti-Zionist commentary. He dismissed their criticism as irrelevant, claiming it indicates their alignment with what he described as Israel’s harmful actions.

Brian Romick, President and CEO of Democratic Majority for Israel, criticized Piker for promoting baseless conspiracy theories. He argued that Piker uses conspiracy rhetoric to deflect responsibility from his controversial statements, which have predictably led to backlash.

“Criticizing policies of Israel is one thing. Blaming American Jews for the hatred directed at them is dangerous and antisemitic,” commented Ken Martin, Chair of the Democratic National Committee.

Piker addressed his viewers, warning that if American Jews continue to associate predominantly with Israel, it could lead to actions against them. This comment was condemned by multiple Democratic legislators including Senators Cory Booker, Elissa Slotkin, Jacky Rosen, and Representatives such as Hakeem Jeffries and Josh Gottheimer.

Rosen labeled Piker’s remarks as a “new low,” stating that he provided an excuse for those perpetrating anti-Jewish crimes by blaming Jewish Americans.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries emphasized the serious threat Piker’s claims posed, noting the importance of fighting antisemitism urgently.

Amid the controversy, Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed distanced himself from Piker. Although initially appearing with Piker during his campaign, El-Sayed highlighted his commitment to the safety of all communities, particularly those historically intimidated for their beliefs.

Despite the intensified criticism, Piker remains defiant, alleging that the wave of Democratic backlash is driven by AIPAC.

Fox News Digital reached out to AIPAC for comment on Piker’s accusations but has not yet received a response.
