Courtney Love has shared details of a health struggle she kept private for several years. The singer, known for her band Hole, unveiled that her recent album took form during a challenging time marked by frequent hospitalizations. She feared it could be her last work.
In an Instagram video, Love discussed her experience dating back to 2019 when she traveled to England and encountered serious health issues. “My body just exploded,” she recalled, describing the severity of her situation, including weight loss to 100 pounds and the loss of her hair. Doctors warned her about the likelihood of death, but she refused to accept the prognosis.
Throughout this period, Love drew on childhood memories of challenging authority figures who claimed the impossible. She recounted rejecting adult proclamations like “red was blue,” always trusting her judgment even when others insisted otherwise. This attitude influenced her refusal to accept a grim diagnosis. “When they said ‘you’re going to die,’ I just didn’t believe them,” she said, ultimately leading to her recovery.
Love chose not to publicize her illness during her recovery. “I didn’t want to be public,” she stated, celebrating her improved health today. Writing and recording her album served as therapy throughout her recovery. Initially, she saw the project as her potential final contribution to music.
The album signifies a return to the musical scene for Love, who hasn’t released an album since Hole’s “Nobody’s Daughter” in 2010. She expressed eagerness to return to performing, viewing music as essential to her well-being. In preparing for this comeback, she asked fans for patience as she readies herself for public life once more.
In an Instagram caption, Love acknowledged those who supported her during her recovery, expressing gratitude for their help during what she described as a traumatic period. The new music reflects her fight to regain health and determination to continue creating.
