Debate on Criminalizing Women for Abortions Gains Traction

6 days ago 0

The antiabortion movement has traditionally focused on prosecuting medical professionals involved in abortion services rather than punishing women who undergo the procedure. However, sentiment within the movement is shifting. Frustration is building as data shows more abortions are occurring now than when Roe v. Wade was overturned. This rise is attributed to the increased use of abortion pills, even in states where the procedure is illegal.

Seth Gruber, an antiabortion activist with The White Rose Resistance, is circulating a petition advocating for criminal charges against women who seek abortions. Over 60 conservative influencers, leaders in the antiabortion movement, and pastors have signed this petition. They call for the removal of legal protections that have previously shielded women from prosecution.

In a significant development, the Texas Republican Party delegates recently voted to support repealing the legal protections for women seeking abortions. This decision was met with strong support during their state convention.

Additionally, the largest antiabortion organization in Texas is exploring a strategy to gauge political support for targeting specific groups. It proposes revoking medical licenses from women found using abortion pills, focusing on those within the medical community.
