Rand Paul Insists on Accountability for Fauci

Senator Rand Paul continues to advocate for holding Dr. Anthony Fauci accountable. On MS NOW, he addressed Fauci’s decision to invoke the Fifth Amendment over 100 times during a recent Senate hearing led by Paul.

Paul expressed uncertainty about the outcomes of Fauci’s testimony, noting the possibility of legal protection from former President Joe Biden’s pardon. He suggested that Fauci’s legal advisors influenced his decision to remain silent, especially given Paul’s previous calls for Fauci’s imprisonment.

During an appearance on “Morning Joe,” Paul reiterated his views on Fauci’s involvement in gain-of-function research. He emphasized the need to uncover the truth about its connection to the COVID-19 pandemic.

When asked if others should face investigations, Paul didn’t advocate for legal consequences but suggested apologies were necessary.

Regarding Fauci’s intentions, Paul commented on what he sees as Fauci’s elitist mindset. “I would say it’s wrongheaded. I’m not sure I would use the word ‘nefarious.’ I would say that he is of the belief that the common man can’t handle the truth,” Paul said. He criticized Fauci for changing positions on public health guidance, interpreting these actions as indicative of arrogance.

Fox News Digital attempted to reach both Fauci and Paul’s office for comments.

In 2021, Paul highlighted the severity of lying about gain-of-function research. “It’s a felony punishable by five years in jail.” He doubted the Department of Justice under President Biden would act but stressed the dangers of public officials deceiving the public.

Fauci’s stance on taking the Fifth Amendment remains unchanged. This tactic, according to Paul, only invites contempt charges.

Paul made his position clear in a 2024 discussion with Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, stating that Fauci deserves jail time. “Anthony Fauci did lie to Congress. We know that from his own words, not because I say lies, but his private emails say he was lying.” Paul cited discrepancies between Fauci’s private and public statements.
